Totally Trashy: Fifty Shades of Grey is one of the Most-Dumped Books

It seems that everyone is starting to get just a little bit bored of Christian Grey and his Red Room of Pain...

Her

E.L James’ raunchy read Fifty Shades of Grey may be one of the fastest-selling novels of all time but, according to some new figures released today, it’s also one of the most discarded books of the summer. We have to say we weren’t exactly surprised when we heard this…

Earlier this summer, bookstores across the nation admitted that they were finding it hard to keep the naughty novel on their shelves, but apparently more than 7,000 copies of the book were dumped in hotel rooms this year.

So are people just mortified to be seen reading it or are we losing interest in kinky Christian Grey after a few pages?

The figures were compiled by Travelodge hotels in Cork, Dublin, Galway, Limerick and Waterford.

“During the last 12 months, around 21,786 books have been left behind in 36,500 Travelodge hotel rooms. A staggering 7,000 copies of the Fifty Shades books have been recovered. A copy of the book was found in every Travelodge hotel in Ireland,” a spokeswoman for Travelodge told the Irish Daily Star.

“Staff at one Travelodge hotel also found a middle-aged couple’s suitcase packed with erotic Mills & Boon books,” the spokeswoman added.

We bet there’s a very embarrassed middle-aged couple somewhere in Ireland right now. Imagine leaving a suitcase like that behind you? Morto or what?

Is Fifty Shades starting to lose its shine?

And discarded copies of Fifty Shades are not only being found in hotel rooms. According to holiday-makers returning from Europe, there is a widespread availability of abandoned copies of the book in hotel lobbies and airports.

Have you ever ditched a book at a hotel before? If so, what was it and why did you leave it behind?
