How do you deal with unwanted presents? Do you attempt to put them to use or do you, like many other women out there, re-gift them once a few months have passed?
According to a new survey, 49 per cent of women have no problem re-gifting presents that they receive over the festive period.
Believe it or not, re-gifting has seen a major rise in the popularity stakes. Apparently Christmas shopping has become so stressful and expensive, that many women now feel it’s perfectly fine to re-gift. This way they get rid of something they don’t want and they also manage to avoid the trauma of tackling the shops in the run-up to Christmas.
The survey, which was conducted by Birchbox, also revealed that 64 per cent of women think it’s rude to save and re-use wrapping paper. Eh… we have to ask, does anyone seriously do this?! (Think about how careful you’d have to be unwrapping stuff!).
The survey found that the average amount of money people spend while shopping for an average of ten people is around €500, and while nine out of 10 admitted that they would rather give a gift than receive a gift, people still expect to receive at least eight gifts from their nearest and dearest.
Unwanted presents: would you give someone else a present you didn’t want?
So what other gifting faux pas are there?
Four out of five people said that giving someone a session with a personal trainer or a gym membership was a definite no but giving them some cash was perfectly acceptable.
Giving the same present to multiple people was seen as being a definite ‘do’ with 81 per cent of the women questioned agreeing that it’s acceptable and an efficient way to get your Christmas shopping sorted.
Department store wrapping is another no go, with 83 per cent of women choosing to wrap their own gifts instead.
Confession time: have you ever re-gifted a present you received? Or, more importantly, have you ever been the victim of a re-gifting?
