The campaign for Liam to be moved home first came to the nation's attention on Liveline when his mother Louise made a plea for help to get the little boy home for Christmas.
His mother Louise told RTE News that she "couldn't wait to start a new life with him."
RTE reported that Louise and her husband had been taking it in turns to go to Dublin to be by the boy's side. Following a long campaign, the HSE agreed a nursing and home care package.
After Liam settles in UHG, he will be able to make regular visits to his family home.
