What would you do if you found out that your boyfriend/husband was playing away from home and cheating on you repeatedly with someone else? According to a new survey, most of us would forgive and forget apparently – but if he strays three times, then we’ve had enough.
The survey, which was commissioned laundry specialists Dr Beckmann (oddly enough), revealed that more than 6 out of 10 women said they would forgive a partner who strays twice, but would not be willing to turn a blind eye to their bad behaviour if they cheated a third time.
The women who took part in the survey also admitted that a man should be allowed at least three “relationship errors” before he was dumped for good. These errors included cheating, excessive flirting or just failing to show an appropriate amount of romantic interest in them.
53 per cent of women said that they would happily give their man another chance, providing he had only cheated once and as long as a prolonged affair was not involved.
However, both men and women said that they thought cheating was the worst mistake someone could make within a relationship with 89 per cent agreeing that unfaithfulness is one of the most difficult problems to recover from.
Most women would forgive a partner for cheating.
“Men in the UK and Ireland get three chances and if they step over the line beyond that, then they can kiss goodbye to their relationship,” said Susan Fermor, a spokeswoman for Dr Beckmann.
