The refugee crisis is hitting an all-time crisis.
On Saturday a group of 1,300 refugees gathered in a town on the Greek side of the border between Greece and Macedonia to protest against the Macedonian authorities’ decision to turn away any refugees that do not come from war zones in Syria, Afghanistan or Iraq.
In one of the most poignant photographs to surface during the heated media focus on the refugee crisis, ten Iranian demonstrators called a hunger strike and sewed their lips shut, sitting down in front of the lines of police.
According to Vice, the demonstration is gaining momentum – resulting in a backlog of people stuck at the border.
While people continue to protest and join the 10 men on hunger strike, some men have written ‘Iran’ across their foreheads, and ‘Help’ across their bodies.
The portraits emerging are a poignant reflection of the refugees’ current status, where they’re being reduced to drastic measures of silence to have their voices heard.
