Dianna has since gone viral (image via Facebook).
Speaking to ABC 7, Dianne recalled hearing the women say: "'Oh look at her hair, it's nasty looking and the roots are coming through'.
"'Oh she's a whale, oh the whale needs to eat.'"
Dianne, who has recently lost 177 pounds, explained what went through her head next.
"I instantly started to cry. I don't know the women. I don't know why they would choose to say something like that."

She explained why she decided to treat the ladies to coffees:
"I wanted to do the right thing so when she's old enough she'll know the right thing to do."
The incident has touched many - Diana's Facebook post detailing what happened has received over 166,000 likes and people have even sent presents including beauty salon gift cards to boost her confidence.
Looks like kindness is catching.
