This Man And His Wife Have Discovered A Unique Way To Fly For Free For The Rest Of Their Lives

You just need a credit card...

A Chinese billionaire and his wife have discovered a new way to fly first class for the rest of their lives – and it’s all down to an art purchase.

Liu Yiqian collects fine art, and just this month purchased the painting Amedeo Modigliani’s “Reclining Nude” at Christie’s auction house. The painting, which cost $170.4million was put on his American Express card.

Other purchases by the Chinese collector include a $36million tea cup from the Ming Dynasty.

Although American Express couldn’t confirm a customer’s personal buys, spokeswoman Elizabeth Crosta told Mashable:

“In theory, it’s possible to put a ($170 million purchase) on an American Express card.

“It is based on our relationship with that individual card member and these decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, based on our knowledge of their spending patterns.”

Yiqian is the owner of the American Express Centurion Card, also known as the AmEx “black card” – an invitation only card, shared with American Express’ biggest spending clients.

The card has no official credit limit and earns points – which means Yiqian earned roughly 170,400,000 million Membership Reward points for his painting purchase.

Not to forget his other credit card expenses… including that tea-cup.

Now Yiqian and his wife have revealed that they plan to convert their reward points to a airline’s frequent flier programme – meaning he and his family can travel anywhere first class.

Somehow we doubt he’s going to suffer from buyer’s remorse for this one.
