An English teacher shared “an old-fashioned list of dating habits” with her students and it has gone massively viral with almost 8,000 retweets.
Twitter user DAMMNNiella posted the list online with the caption:
“My English teacher put this up in her class and I’m wondering, why haven’t enough people applied this to their relationships?”.

The list includes ten ideas including bringing flowers, collecting someone at the door for a date, asking someone out properly and not skirting the issue and making an effort to scrub up well for a date.
Not everyone will agree with the list but there is a case for saying that the modern dating world isn’t half as romantic as it used to be.
Is there something to be said for reinstating the below dating rulebook?
Below is the list in full:
- Coming to the door to pick someone up instead of texting them or honking the horn…
- Making an effort to dress nicely for a date…
- Bringing flowers or other tokens of respect and affection to the first date…
- Going dancing that shows respect for yourself and your date, not grinding on on a grimy dance floor…
- Straightforwardly asking someone out and not calling it ‘hanging out’…
- Being clear about when you are going steady or are in a committed relationship…
- Making romantic gestures like writing poetry or songs…
- Turning off electronics just to be with the other person…
- Asking permission for things…
- NOT assuming that sex is to be had at any point in time…
