So how did they come up with the results?
The research team asked 105 men to read a hypothetical scenario where the woman either outperformed or underperformed them in a math of English class. The men were then asked to imagine this woman as a romantic partner.
In the hypothetical scenario, the men unanimously opted for the clever counterpart.
The men were then given actual intelligence tests, and told they would be paired with women who supposedly did better or worse than them on the tests.
This time around, egos stepped in and men who were told their partner had outperformed them rapidly found this female less desirable.
To add further fire to our fury, the findings support previous UK studies with 121 British participants which found heterosexual relationships where the women had higher ranked intelligence flagged as “more problematic”.
The study concludes that smarter women may find it harder to find a potential date with these men… although we’re not sure why she’d want to settle for an insecure boy.
Why should we dull our sparkle to let him shine?
