Your wedding day is undoubtedly one of the biggest moments of your life.
You make plans, book a venue and start working out all the small details that sum up to your special big day.
For Samantha Jackson and Farzin Yousefian, they were well on the way to finalising all the details of their March 2016 wedding when they had a change of heart.
Not about each other, but spending all their money on a ceremony.
They decided that instead, they wanted to take the money to the Ryerson University Lifeline Syria Challenge, an organization that sponsors families to support Syrian refugees.
Speaking to The Huffington Post, Farzin explained:
“We just called the venue and the caterers and we told them our plan.
“We said that we wanted to redirect our efforts towards this humanitarian crisis and they were immediately on board as well, which is great because they allowed us to cancel our existing reservation and refund our money to use towards this new cause.”
The couple instead moved their ceremony to Toronto City Hall and hosted a small dinner for family and friends, asking for donations to be made to the charity instead of wedding gifts.
Jackson added:
“We realized our wedding would be a great opportunity to come together with our friends and family to support this cause, and transformed our wedding into a fundraiser with the hopes of helping a Syrian family start a new life in Toronto.”
Their hard work is paying off too – with the couple raising $17,500 toward their goal of $27,000.
With that much love and compassion for strangers, we’re pretty confident this pair will always have each other’s backs.
