You’re about to feel like a real under-achiever. A 13 year old school girl has just been named as the youngest female to reach the top of Mount Everest.
According to reports from the Indian Express, Malavath Purna scaled the world’s tallest mountain as part of a school trip, accompanied by her slightly older classmate Sadhanapalli Anand Kumar, who is 16.
Both Purna and Kumar are students at Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Educational Society, where they were selected from 150 others to take part in the adventure.
The pair underwent a 6-month long gruelling training under the supervision of a senior officer at their school, Praveen Kumar, who said:
“They have created history. The statement they made after reaching was, ‘Poverty is not a barrier’. For some, all that is needed is an opportunity and Poorna is a girl and will be a huge inspiration to those who think twice to encourage girls in various fields and being the daughter of agricultural labourer she did this and she is only thirteen years and I’m proud to speak for her.”
Following the 52-day trek, the two students are now returning to base camp.
