They’re Finally Here! Ireland Gets Its Sticky Fingers on New York’s Favourite Treat

And about time too...

Rebecca McKnight

It’s now almost two months since we introduced you to America’s latest, greatest snack food, the Cronut.

We had a little wait to get our grubby paws on them, but the time has finally come!

The Marker Hotel on Grand Canal Square has introduced the hugely anticipated ‘Cronut’ which goes on sale at its Brasserie from today. The croissant-doughnut fusion is the new craze in pastry and after taking New York by storm the hotel will sell a limited amount of cronuts each morning. Those who are lucky enough to purchase a box early will be in with a chance to win a golden ticket for complimentary prizes at the hotel.

From Monday The Marker will sell boxes of cronuts (x4) with mouth-watering fillings and glazes priced €10 – perfect for sharing with friends or colleagues! Like bakeries in New York, The Marker Hotel will sell a limited amount of cronuts each day and each week one box will include a golden ticket where someone will get their hands on an urban spa escape which includes an overnight stay, spa treatments and a three-course meal, other prizes include overnight packages, cocktails and dinner on the hotel’s rooftop terrace.

Speaking about the cronut craze The Marker Hotel’s executive chef Gareth Mullins said, “I discovered the craze on a recent trip to New York so myself and our pastry chef Rey Hortillosa set about mastering the recipe where there was a lot of trial and error as they are fragile to prepare. Once we perfected the process we introduced the cronut at our launch party in June and received an overwhelming positive reaction from guests. Since then we have been inundated with requests so we are delighted to be able sell them now. There will only be a limited amount of boxes so I would advise people to get in early as when they are gone they are gone!

The cronut was created in May by award-winning Parisian pastry chef Dominique Ansel, owner of Dominique Ansel Bakery in New York City. The delicacy has become Manhattan’s must-have treat with large queues forming at bakeries across the city. The Marker ‘Cronut’ will go on sale at The Marker Hotel from Monday 8th July.
