Oliver Mellor has spoken out about his decision to leave Coronation Street.
The actor, who has played Dr Matt Carter for the last three years, revealed that show bosses didn’t try to talk him around.
Oliver Mellor has left Coronation Street.
He told the Sunday Mercury: “There were quite long periods when I didn’t appear at all, so I realised it was time to leave.
“They didn’t try to make me stay – they admitted they didn’t have any solid plans for the doctor and it would be more of the same.”
His character was involved with Tina (played by Michelle Keegan).
He added: “They just weren’t progressing my character as much as I would like. As an actor you want some kind of consistency and to be busy. I wasn’t being integrated into the rest of the street.”
Mellor finished up with filming for the soap earlier this year and explained that his exit from the street is unlikely to feature in the show. According to reports he is currently working on a play entitled A Murder Has Been Arranged.
