Do you know a lot of Emily’s?

A few months ago we brought you a list of the most popular surnames in Ireland, with Murphy coming in first place.

The surname appears most in counties such as Wexford, Tyrone and Roscommon.

And now, a new survey has found the most popular first names across all the countries in Europe.

The most popular girl’s name in Ireland is Emily, while the most popular boy’s name is Jack.

This statistically means that Emily Murphy and Jack Murphy are the most popular names in Ireland.

How many people do you know with that full name?

Emma was the second most popular name for girls in Ireland with Ava, Sophia and Amelia following after.

After the name Jack, James, Daniel and Conor were the other most popular names.

Across Europe variations of the name Sofia (Sofija, Zofija) came out on top, especially towards the east of the continent. However, ‘Emma’ was also very popular across the west.

In the boy’s category different versions of ‘Maxim’ was the biggest name in the east while Lucas and Jakub were also popular.
