The importance of deciding what to have to for lunch is not to be underestimated. Stay at the desk or eat out? Get stuck in before 1pm or after? Spend the most precious hour of the working day with colleagues or fly solo?
Getting it just right on any given day of the week can actually be a tricky process. A very tricky process indeed.
It’s a tough world out there; we’ve got to stick together on this burning issue.
Here are the ten stages we all go through when deciding what to have for lunch during the working week.
11.50: The internal dialogue begins…
“I’m starting to feel a bit peckish. Is this normal? Why I am always hungry?”
12.00: And continues with empty promises…
“I’m going to be really good today. I’m definitely having a salad.”
12.05: Quickly followed by a guilt-trip…
“Why do I never bring a packed lunch? Is it really that hard to plan?”
12.15: The hangry thoughts start to make an appearance…
“God, I’m in no mood for this meeting. Why do people insist on scheduling meetings at midday? Don’t they ever get hungry?”
12.30: The paranoia…
“I wonder if everyone in this room can hear my tummy rumbling? This is so embarrassing.”
12.45: The irritability…
“No, I don’t want to have another meeting about this.”
13.00: The hangry cogs really start to turn…
“It’s like the people I work with are trying to annoy me on purpose.”
13:15: The struggle becomes real…
“I’m so hungry I can’t think straight.”
13.30: The office announcement
“That’s it. I’ve had enough. I’m going for lunch. Who’s with me?”
13.30: The sweet satisfaction of getting your hands on a delicious lunch…
“Nom, nom, nom.”
