One young Donegal woman scooped the €1 million jackpot with a Lotto ticket she got as a Christmas present.
The 24-year-old said she is over the moon and will toast her birthday in style next week after collecting the prize at Lotto HQ.
She wants to remain anonymous, but she did reveal how she celebrated the winning moment with a bottle of vodka.
“I just can’t believe it. I checked my ticket number on my new iPhone 5 on New Year’s Day but it’s only sinking in now,” she told the Irish Sun.
“I got my ticket as a present with a bottle of vodka. The vodka’s long gone but the result of this ticket will last me forever and has changed my life.
“I intend to continue working and go on holiday to the US.
“Apart from that, I’m just going to chill out.”
A total of €1,450,000 was paid out in big Lotto prizes on Friday.
One couple, who live in Lucan, Co Dublin, and who also did not want to be named, were given their €100,000 winning ticket as a present by the wife’s dad.
She said: “We were laughing that we hadn’t won the top prize of €1million as we’d been daydreaming of what we would do. But then the numbers matched for the €100,000, and we’re still in shock.
“We have no immediate plans. We’re expecting a new baby in the summer so an attic conversion for the expanding family is definite.
“And we’re going to pay off our car loan next week — that’s something I’m really looking forward to doing.”
A family syndicate of four from Castletownbere, Co Cork, collected €350,000 in the Lotto Plus 1 draw from December 8.
And another lucky player claimed his big winnings yesterday after matching three €100,000 symbols on a scratch card bought in Oughterard, Co Galway.
Looks like we could be investing in a few tickets next week.
