The short test that tells you how ‘good’ you are at maintaining a relationship

Can it really be this simple?!

Cathy Donohue

Five short questions.

It’s hard to believe that a quick test can determine how ‘good’ you at are at your relationship but according to one expert, it’s that simple.

Dr. Ben Ambridge, Psychological Sciences at the University of Liverpool FYI, says that asking yourself the below questions and rating your answers on a scale of 1 to 5 can say a lot about the state of your relationship.

Ask yourself “to what extent do you?”:

1 – pay attention to detail?
2 – get chores done straightaway?
3 – like order?
4 – follow a schedule?
5- ensure that you are always well-prepared?

The expert says that preferably, you’ll want to get a score of 21-25 overall as this says you’re very ‘conscientious’,an important trait many people value in their other halves.

Growing closer by the day

With that in mind, the lower you score on the aforementioned questions, the less conscientious you are. According to this particular test anyway.

While dedication and diligence might not seem like the most obvious qualities people desire in a partner, it seems that reliability wins out in the end.

Ben, the brains behind Psy-Q: A Mind-Bending Miscellany Of Everyday Psychology, spoke to The Guardian about the positives of dating someone with a conscientious nature.

“It seems that ultimately most of us want a partner who will keep their promises, do their share of the household chores, remember birthdays and anniversaries, not cheat on us and forgive us if we cheat on them – all characteristics of conscientious people, and predictors of relationship satisfaction.

“As if that’s not enough, conscientious people – across all levels of education and socioeconomic status – also live longer. Let’s raise a (sensibly sized) glass to boring people”.

Obviously, this is only one aspect of a relationship and the inner workings of a couple can only be figured out by them but hey, the test will give you an idea of how conscientious you are at the very least.
