The Sexiest Song of all Time? New Research Shows The Tracks We Think Are “Better Than Sex”

We already know that humans have a strong connection with music and now some new research has revealed the number one tune that's guaranteed to get us in the mood...

How would you react if the man in your life tried to seduce you by blaring Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing? If you’re anything like us, chances are you’d have a giggle at the cheesiness and romance would be put on the backburner in exchange for a good laugh.

However, researchers are now claiming that of all the songs in the world, Sexual Healing is the one that is most likely to get you and your partner in the mood for love. How is that even possible? Well apparently it’s all down to Marvin’s “high chest voice” and the fact that he doesn’t use too much “vocal vibrato.”

The research, which was commissioned by music website Spotify and undertaken at the University of London, saw 2,000 people questioned about the tracks that inspire them to get down and dirty with their partners.

Surprisingly Marvin Gaye not only held the top spot, he also came in second with his raunchy Let’s Get it On. Barry White came in third place and Je T’Aime by Serge Gainsbourg earned a respectable fourth place.

Showing the power that music has on emotion, a surprising 40 per cent of the people who were surveyed said that the effect of the music that was played was actually more arousing than the touch of the partner.

Hmm… maybe we should try a bit of Marvin for ourselves. We’ll admit, with results like that we’re pretty curious…

Do you have any tunes that are guaranteed to get you feeling a bit frisky?

“It is no surprise that so many respondents claimed to find music arousing in the bedroom. From neuro-scientific research we know that music can activate the same pleasure centres of the brain that also respond to much less abstract rewards such as food, drugs or indeed sex,” said music psychologist Dr Daniel Mullensiefen from the University of London.

“The study also unveiled that the best tracks for seduction in the bedroom – essentially what gets us in the mood – all possess the same qualities including a greater dynamic range, more use of the high chest voice, more raspiness in the voice and less use of vocal vibrato,” he added.

The research also revealed that one in three of us have a certain song that we consider to be better than sex and Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody was voted number one.
