Birthday cake catastrophes often go viral, as unfortunate slip-ups make for brilliant stories.
However, the reason this imperfect birthday cake is going viral is truly heartwarming.
The photo, which has been shared more than 130,000 times on Facebook, was uploaded by Lisa Sarber Aldrich from Michigan earlier this week, along with a post sharing the touching story.
She described how went to her local Meijer store to pick up a birthday cake and asked the girl behind the counter to write a message for her on the icing.
Lisa writes: “After a long time, she came and presented me with this cake.”
Although the writing was shaky and not quite what she expected, Lisa thanked the girl and went to the checkout.
However, when she reached the checkout, she learned that the girl who had written the message was “not supposed to write on cakes.”
She wrote: “To my surprise, after they discussed it, one cashier put her arm on my shoulder and said “the girl who wrote that has autism. Thank you for smiling and thanking her – even though she’s not supposed to write on cakes, you probably made her day.”
She concluded: “So I guess the moral of the story is that kindness is important!”
