The Real Deal, Busting The Myths – Skipping Breakfast Can Help You Lose Weight

We take a look at the breakfast myth and give you the facts...

Sue Murphy

Many believe skipping breakfast in the morning helps you lose weight. While it may seem that a meal will add calories, your morning one can actually help lose those extra pounds.

Maintaining a good metabolism is an essential part of dieting and weight loss. While sleeping, your body goes into a mild fasting state and if you skip lunch, it can be almost an 18 hour stretch without food. This means that instead of burning calories, your body will begin to conserve all it can. Eating early in the morning will kick start your metabolism and may lead you to eat a smaller lunch.

Eating a healthy breakfast in the morning can also help increase your energy levels, leaving you less tired and less irritable.

The type of breakfast you eat is also a very important factor. Experts recommend eating a low fat breakfast that will keep you satisfied during the day, rather than leaving you prone to snacking on various high-calorie foods. Good options for a healthy breakfast include, fruit, oats or poached eggs with wholegrain toast and Connacht Gold low fat butter.

It is also advisable to stay away from high-calorie breakfasts. Sugary cereals can often leave you unsatisfied and prone to snacking on other food while fried foods like bacon and eggs can increase your calorie intake. Eat well and choose the healthy options for a great start to the day!
