We know couples are meant to share everything. Then we heard about this latest trend and we can’t help but feel some people take things too literally.
While you might share a bank account with your better half, would you consider setting up a joint Facebook account?
According to a new survey, 11% of couples in the UK now have a joint account on the social media website. What might be more surprising is the average age of couples taking part in this new ritual is 25 – 30 years old.
So what is the most common reason given for sharing an account? A lack of trust amongst spouses.
Considering Facebook is now cited in a third of US divorce papers, the social media giant can cause serious tension and opportunity to a partner who may want to stray.
Speaking on the findings of the poll, Nick Swan, CEO of VoucherCodesPro.co.uk who conducted the study, said:
‘Joint Facebook accounts seem like a good idea if you’re perhaps an older couple who only uses Facebook to check in with the grandkids or keep in touch with family, but I think they spell trouble for young couples.
“If you don’t trust your partner enough to let them have their own Facebook account, there are obviously issues in the relationship that need solving.”
