The Irish Can Expect Downpours for The Next Eight Years According to A Weather Guru

Get out the rain jackets because a NUIG meteorologist says the weather won’t let up until 2020.

The Irish have become accustomed to drippy summers and perishing winters and meteorologists believe that our terrible weather is set to continue for at least eight years.

Meteorologist Kieran Hickey, a professor at NUIG revealed that the dismal weather will have us stepping in puddles and shivering in the cold until 2020.

“It’s more likely we will have more wet summers, though that doesn’t mean that every summer will be wet until 2020,” Kieran told The Sunday Times.

Last summer was the wettest in 68 years as thousands of Irish people flocked to warmer shores for some much needed Vitamin D and a little bit of sun worshipping.

The Irish can expect bad weather for the next eight years!

“The Irish are eternally optimistic about summer weather but we are constantly disappointed,” said Kieran.

Kieran believes that melting sea ice in the Artic is to blame for our atrocious weather conditions.

“The loss of the Artic sea ice means more heat is going into the ocean, which will prolong the AMO’s current phase.

“Because ocean temperatures are quite warm off Ireland, there is lots of evaporation, which tends to give us cloudy summers. We tend to have our sunniest months in May, June and September, because ocean temperatures aren’t quite as warm,” he said.

It looks like we will be perpetually donning the wellies and walking home in scenes reminiscent of The Day After Tomorrow.

We’re saving up for our summer holiday already.
