Adult film star Stoya made allegations this weekend that her ex-boyfriend and fellow adult film star, James Deen, raped her.
Deen is often praised for being an out spoken feminist and supporter of women’s rights in the industry. Stoya took to Twitter saying:
That thing where you log in to the internet for a second and see people idolizing the guy who raped you as a feminist. That thing sucks.
— Stoya (@stoya) November 28, 2015
She then explained what happened in no uncertain terms.
James Deen held me down and fucked me while I said no, stop, used my safeword. I just can’t nod and smile when people bring him up anymore. — Stoya (@stoya) November 28, 2015
The accusations come a mere few days after a former MMA fighter Jonathan Koppenhaver claimed that females working in the porn industry allude to consent. Another editorial published in the Chicago Sun-Times by writer Mary Mitchell claimed females working in the adult film industry could not be raped. So as the Internet was flooded with debate about the validity of consent, it was a welcome surprise that people supported Stoya’s claims.
#SolidatrityWithStoya began trending as people shared their stories, support and perceptions of consent.
No means no. No matter what job you do. No matter if he’s your partner. No matter how many times you’ve said yes. #solidaritywithstoya
