It is one of the oldest and most dangerous love games.
It’s exciting for one half and devastating for the other. It can be so obvious to some and others remain oblivious.
It’s cheating. And we have the inside story… but we’re finding some of these facts difficult to believe.
Fact: Most men are still in love with their wives when they cheat.
According to clinical psychology, men who cheat haven’t fallen out of love, they’ve become unsatisfied with the current state of it. Cheating usually occurs in the phase of companionate love, when couples begin to settle down. While the men might be fulfilled in some areas, like being a provider, the romance may be missing.
Her.ie says: It takes two to tango. If either person in the relationship is feeling like the romance bubble has burst, they should broach the subject and work it out.
Fact: Cheaters often have more sex with their wives when affairs begin.
When a man starts cheating, he becomes hyperactive sexually. His sex drive has been awakened and his wife is still the one with whom he feels most comfortable sexually.
Her.ie says: Oh, and we’re supposed to be grateful? We doubt somehow that we’d be getting more loving in the bedroom if our man was playing away.
Fact: A wife often knows her husband’s cheating.
Studies say that although many women know their spouse is having an affair, the majority have been said not acknowledge it.
Her.ie says: Oops, our bad. We didn’t realise that love cheats getting down and dirty was our fault.
Fact: Affairs can often fix a marriage.
Is infidelity the kiss of death for a couple? Not always. Although a new relationship is exciting, an affair can rekindle the marriage. Men realise who they want for the rest of their lives and that the new relationship isn’t as perfect as they thought.
Her.ie says: And a corker to finish! We’re not wholly convinced that you can ever regain the trust after it’s been broken.
