The Death of Sex? Only One in Every Six Cuddles Leads To Something More

Some new research has revealed that our bedrooms are becoming less lovey-dovey places and more about sleep...

Does the humble cuddle always have to lead to something heavier? Well no, according to some new research. In fact, for most of us only one in six cuddles tends to lead to a bit of sexy time.

The research, which was carried out by the hotel chain Travelodge, also revealed some surprising results about our general bedtime rituals.

Apparently 2012 marked the death of the traditional bedtime kiss, with 80 per cent of the people surveyed admitting that they were just too tired to give their other half a goodnight shift at the end of every day. And 46 per cent confessed that they preferred to turn away and sleep with their back to the partner in order to get a good night’s sleep.

A quarter of lovers even reported that they simply can’t bear for their partner to touch them while they’re sleeping. Crazy or what?

When’s the last time you gave your man a proper goodnight kiss?

Sadly it’s not just sex that’s on the decline, nearly 90 per cent of the 2,000 couples questioned in the survey said that they don’t even say ‘I love you’ to their partner before they turn the lights off.

“Inevitably, once the first flush of lust wears off, with couples naked and entwined, it is more likely that the need for a good night’s sleep predominates, so sleeping back to back becomes a favourable position in bed,” said Corrine Sweet, a relationship psychologist.

We don’t know about you but we think a proper goodnight is the foundation to every good relationship. If you’ve been lacking on the ‘I love you’ front at night time, say it to your man tonight before you nod off. Sometimes it’s a good thing to get the words out there every now and then.
