Some of Dublin’s legendary statues got knitted out with a wooly makeover to celebrate the start of the innocent Big Knit 2012 campaign.

Kicking off at 5am this morning, the capital’s most famous landmarks were transformed into wool-wearing style icons. The campaign is in aid of Age Action and is to encourage Irish people to get knitting for the innocent Big Knit this year.

Constance Markievicz, James Connolly and the two women at the Ha’Penny Bridge were only some of the capital’s famous faces who got knitted out in their woollies this morning.

Since 2008, the innocent Big Knit and the Irish have helped raise over €60,000 for Age Action. They have knitted over 180,000 little wooly head accessories including classic bobble hats, Santa hats and even Jedward hats.

This year, innocent drinks are urging everyone to cast on and help knit 80,000 wooly hats to raise €20,000 and much-needed awareness for Age Action.

We don’t know how Daniel got his hat on up that high…

If you’re looking for some photo opportunities with the capital’s hatted celebrities today, look out for Constance Markievicz, James Connolly, the Chariot of Fire, Patrick Kavanagh, Oscar Wilde, the two women at the Ha’Penny Bridge, Molly Malone, Phil Lynott, Henry Grattan, Jim Larkin, Charles Stewart Parnell, Daniel O’Connoll, Robert Emmet and Arthur Guinness… they were all wrapped up warm in some very stylish headwear.
