“What even are we?”
The question no girl wants to ask – but determining how serious your relationship is can be tricky territory, especially if you’re not into labels.
But if you find yourself standing in the men’s gifts aisle and wondering whether you guys are serious enough to be buying presents, you might find the results of this survey quite interesting.
British relationship support organisation Relate.co.uk interviewed 6,000 people about their relationships – asking a series of questions including “what makes a relationship serious?”.
The result? Talking about personal issues and problems.
Fifty per cent of respondents said that “sharing problems” is a top indicator that the relationship is pretty serious.
Sharing problems ranked higher than “being exclusive” (44 per cent) and even “getting married” (39 per cent).
This one surprised us, but as Women’s Health point out, if problems aren’t shared within a marriage, then there’s probably some stuff to work on.
The publication writes: “In a happy marriage (and relationship), you share the good and the bad things in life and help each other through them.”
So basically, if he complains to you about his mother, he’s getting a Chrimbo pressie.
