Where were you when the world introduced the noughties?
Can you believe it has been 15 years since you stuck on a party hat and pair of ridiculous novelty ‘2000’ glasses and celebrated the millennium?! We’re getting old.
We’ve decided to take a skip down memory lane and list the greatest things since that rumoured Y2K meltdown, that we simply can’t live without and will never forget.
2000 – Satellite Navigation
Before this GPS device we were pulling over ever 10 minutes unfolding the good old paper map.
2001 – iPod
Apple’s signature device, launched twelve years ago, was the greatest invention of it’s kind. Walkmans were so nineties.
2002 – The Euro
Goodbye to the good old punt, hello to the monopoly money.
2003 – iTunes Music Store
Clear the shelves because the CD collection can go. iTunes store made buying music, movies, and television series as easy as the click of button.
2004 – Facebook
Mark Zuckerburg was about to become the youngest self made billionaire in history, but he just didn’t know it yet. The first social media network of its kind, Facebook changed the way in which people communicated with each other, and 10 years later, we’re still addicted.
2005 – YouTube
A huge sorry to Bebo, which was also launched in 05, you were great, but YouTube was better.
2006 – Twitter
To tweet or not to tweet… was never the question. We love Twitter, probably a small bit too much.
2007 – iPhone
Apple products appear on this list a few times. Steve Jobs done a great job making it the most wanted gadget and accessory on the planet. With new thousands of new apps, it’s the gadget that just keeps getting better.
2008 – Britney’s Comeback
It’s Britney bitch. After her very public meltdown in 2007, Brit was back. Probably one of the greatest comebacks of all time our, Disney Club sweetheart and one-time role model, released her sixth album Circus and announced her world tour of the same name.
2009 – The Hangover
Alan and the guys brought us the ‘Wolf pack.’
“Hello… Four of us wolves running around the desert together looking for strippers and cocaine…”
2010 – iPad
Apple was the first company to market touch screen so it is no surprise that the iPad us the fastest selling tech gizmo in consumer electronic history that wasn’t a phone.
2011 – Bridesmaids
Bridesmaids was the breakthrough comedy written by and starring women, to which the rest of us the sisterhood should be extremely thankful for. Yes, women ARE funny.
2012 – Tinder
We don’t all use it, however those that do seem to love it. Tinder was officially launched in August 2012 and although it only really caught on with the masses last year, we’ve a feeling it will be around for a few more years to come…
2013 – Her.ie App
Launched in 2012, Her.ie is the to-go-to place for Irish woman and we launched our app in 2013 ensuring that all of your daily intake of news, fashion, celebrity, music, life, and humour was available in the palm of your hand.
We may be a little bias but it came as no big surprise that Her.ie was the number one downloaded app in the country after its release. (Don’t let our brothers over at JOE.ie know that they didn’t make the list).
2014 – The Sunday Sessions
Her.ie and JOE.ie’s Sunday Sessions launched on July 27th, since then we’ve enjoyed meeting, interviewing and recording originals and covers from some of, not only the country’s most exciting up-and-coming talent, but international stars.
Five months on, half a million YouTube views later, 4,100+ Twitter followers and some 1,300+ subscribers, we can’t wait to bring you more incredible footage and host exciting events this year.
Note: We’ve also decided to rename 2014 as ‘The Year of Hozier’, he had a pretty great run…
2015, we look forward to what you have to offer… Doc Brown had some great predictions for you.
