And yes, you did read that right.
Talking lamp posts are to be installed in Dublin city centre from early next year in a bid to get pet owners to clean up after their pet.
The initiative is part of a new litter management plan by Dublin City Council, as dog pooh was listed as one of the biggest issues in terms of litter management on the city’s streets.
The Council hopes to use pre-recorded messages that will remind dog owners to obey the law when out and about with their pooches.
A system such as this is already in place in Balbriggan and has proved rather successful.
The council is also aiming to roll-out a 12-week advertising campaign in order to promote cleaning up after pets, with a reminder that dog owners caught breaking the law will face a fine of €150.
The talking lamp post system will cost €960 for three months per location.
