According to TIME:
"The middle of the cabin, historically, has the highest overall fatality rates–more specifically the middle aisle seats....The fatality rate [in middle seats near the back of the plane] is 28%, compared to 44% [in the aisle seats in the middle of the plane]”.

It may seem obvious, but the two rows closest to the emergency exit are the next tipped to get you out of an accident or emergency safely.
The advice is based on the results of 17 crashes over the past 30 years.

Remember to follow all safety instructions, pay attention to flight stewards during their safety demonstrations and to keep your seat belt on to increase your odds of safely surviving an emergency landing.
