Now that the dreaded Leaving Cert is finito we bet all of you girls are dead excited for the glamorous event that is the Debs. Okay, so maybe by the end of the night it is not all that glamorous but we loved getting dressed up in our finest to spend a wonderful night with our school friends. To help you on your way to your dream debs we have some advice to impart on all you lucky things.
Choosing your date
If you have a boyfriend you have a ready-made date but for all you other girls you have the joyous task of inviting somebody to join you. Our advice is to bring a male friend who is good fun and makes you laugh. You want to remember your debs because you had fun and not because it was an evening full of unwanted drama. Don’t feel that you have to bring a date either. The friend who didn’t have a date to our Debs was the girl who had the most fun so don’t feel pressured or embarrassed to go it on your own.
Forget the Limo
The bus to and from our Debs location was the most craic and we wouldn’t change it for the world. Who wants to be alone in a limo making awkward conversation with their date when they could be joining everyone else in a fun trip? It is much better to stay with the main group and because it’s cheap and cheerful you’ll have more money in your pocket.
Keep and eye on your things
Don’t be tempted to leave your bag on your table while you go dancing. Even though you may think you know the people in your class well, you can’t trust everyone. A stolen phone or purse can really put a dampener on your night so it’s best just to be mindful of your bag.
Don’t get too drunk
You don’t want to be the girl who is drunk before the meal even starts. We know it’s a cliché but the best advice we can give you is to pace yourself. After spending so much money on the night it would be a shame not to remember it.
Take thousands of pictures
Photographs of the debs are always hilarious and even though our Debs were back in the era of disposable cameras we still have a few that we love. It’s great fun to look back at people’s terrible dresses and hairstyles and remember all of the funny things that happened throughout the night. Most of all they are great at making us wonder ‘what the hell was I thinking?’
