Sweet Dreams? The Average Bed Sees 720 Arguments, 480 Sex Sessions and 4,160 Kisses in Its Lifetime

A new study has revealed just what exactly goes down between our sheets. Are you ready for some amazing facts and figures?

Ladies, what really goes down in your bed? We’re only asking because a new survey has revealed some amazing facts about the lifetime of the average shared bed.

Did you know, for example, that the average bed sees 720 arguments, 4,160 kisses and 3,640 cuddles in its lifetime? We definitely didn’t (although now we’re totting up our own bed scores when it comes to arguments and smooches).

The survey, which was commissioned by bedding company Dreamland, also revealed that over the years our beds have become more of a ‘living’ space rather than a sleeping space. Nowadays, we tend to use our beds to watch TV, check out social networking websites and, in some cases, catch up on our work.

As well as seeing a host of arguments (the main ones being about snoring and someone’s cold feet), the typical bed usually experiences 480 sex sessions, 120 breakfasts in bed and 240 books are likely to be read over the lifetime of a bed.

The survey of 2,000 people found that over the average ten-year lifetime of a bed, the vast majority of us will spend the equivalent of three and a half years lying or relaxing on our mattresses. However, of that number, only two years and eight months are actually spent sleeping.

The average couple has 720 arguments in their bed over the space of ten years

Unsurprisingly, six out of ten of us admitted that we would absolutely love to spend more time in bed than we currently do (here in the Her.ie office we’d work from our beds if we could!).

“We spend a lot of time in our beds. It’s quite staggering to realise all of the different activities we get up to under our duvets. It seems that our beds are no longer reserved for sleeping…” said Jacqueline Townson, a spokeswoman for Dreamland.

“But with such a large amount of time spent under the covers, it’s inevitable that it’s going to be the setting for one or two disagreements between couples. Sharing a bed can be a nightmare for some, especially in the winter months with many rows occurring because of someone’s cold feet or one person hogging the duvet on their side of the bed,” she added.

So what do you think? Do you think your bed is likely to see 720 arguments in the course of its lifetime?
