Dayna Kearney, who survived a horrific crash which saw four of her best friends lose their lives, has paid tribute to them one year on from the accident.

The five pals were embarking on an ice skating trip when the car they were travelling in collided with a Volkswagon Transporter.

Aisling Middleton, Niamh Doyle, Gemma Nolan and Chermaine Carroll all lost their lives in the crash which happened near Athy Co. Kildare on January 6th 2014.

In a moving Facebook post one year on, Dayna wrote that it had been the worst year of her life but that she was very thankful for everyone’s support during this difficult time, according to the Irish Mirror.

She wrote:

“This day last year I went ice skating with 4 of my best friends which turned from a great day to a horrific and tragic night for many.

“I lost four of the greatest friends who meant so much to me. They were all wonderful people to be around, each in their own way.

“This year has been a blur and has gone by so fast. It has been the worst year of my life and also many other people’s life. Life is not the same and never will be the same when you lose someone you’ve seen or spoken to everyday.”

She continued: “I am trying and will continue to try live my life the way my four beautiful friends would have wanted me to, even though its hard at times.

“Today I think about all the girls families and friends as it is going to be a particularly hard day. I just want to thank everybody who has been there for me the past year! I do not know where I would be without the brilliant support.”

The five girls attended St. Leo’s College in Co. Carlow together.
