Now, we don’t know about you but personally, we’d be absolutely thrilled if himself surprised us with a weekend away. However, a new survey has revealed that the vast majority of women absolutely hate surprises (shocking, we know).

The survey, which was commissioned by British Airways, saw 60 per cent of the women questioned admitting that they actually hate surprises and a third confessed that they’d be a bit annoyed if the man in their life sprang a holiday on them.

Why would they get miffed? Well the women said that they simply would not have enough time to prepare for an unexpected trip abroad.

So how much notice should a man give his lady if he’s planning on whisking her away? We’d like seven days and 11 hours’ notice so we can plan our outfits, thanks boys!

That extra week-and-a-day gives us enough time to find someone to cover for us at work, go on three shopping expeditions, have our beauty treatments, cancel any other arrangements we have and pack all our essentials.

Most women hate surprises because they feel unprepared, especially if the surprise is a holiday.

The survey also revealed that the average woman believes nine outfits are needed for short breaks away and one in four stated that forgetting a key item of clothing would actually spoil their break.

“It might not always occur to men just how much preparation their partners put into any trip away,” said Abigail Comber, the head of brands at British Airways.

“Even if they may only be flying short-haul, they rush through researching places to eat and things to do, as well as last minute beauty appointments. Women have a lot to do before they go on holiday,” she added.

We have to say, these results sort of beg the question: is romantic spontaneity is dead? Hmm…maybe not dead but it isn’t exactly alive and kicking either  as four in 10 women stated that a romantic trip away ‘just wouldn’t cross their partner’s minds.’

Meanwhile a quarter of the 2,000 women questioned said that their partner’s idea of spontaneity involved buying them a surprise takeaway. And they say that romance is dead?

Would you be elated or angry if himself tried to whisk you away overseas without any warning?
