SuperValu Teases The Judge’s Taste Buds at Elite Foodie Awards

The Irish supermarket has been recognised for their commitment to local produce at the Blás na hÉireann awards.

Irish supermarket SuperValu has taken the top spot at the 2012 Blás na hÉireann awards, winning an incredible 14 medals for their range.

The company took home four gold, eight silver, and two bronze medals for their great quality food and wide variety of products.

All of the products from the Supervalu range, which won the awards, are supplied by Irish food suppliers from all over the country.

The winners of the four gold medals were Supervalu’s supreme mini dessert selection, stuffed lamb rack with redcurrant and rosemary stuffing, pork rack with sage and brambly apple butter and the supreme Christmas pudding.

Blás na hÉireann is the largest blind tasting competition of its kind internationally with over 2,000 products up for testing.

Each product was tasted by a panel of 40 judges made up of chefs, foodies and food scientists from UCC.

Speaking about the awards, Martin Kelleher, Managing Director, SuperValu, said: “We are incredibly proud that our SuperValu Range has featured so prominently at the Blas na hÉireann Awards. To have 14 of our products receive medals is a tremendous achievement and it marks a huge vote of confidence in the quality and taste credentials of this range.”
