Forget Tinder, or even Plenty Of Fish. Apparently finding love is all down to having a good heart (and no, we don’t mean swiping right)…
Apparently the best way to find a better half is if you decide to help out those around you. A study published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science found that singles who helped out friends, family and neighbours were significantly more likely to be loved up a year later.
Researchers in Germany assessed more than 12,000 single people’s ‘pro-social’ (otherwise known as volunteering) behaviours, and whether those individuals were in a relationship by the following year.
The study found that anyone who listed themselves as lending a helping hand just once a week were 46% more likely to be in a relationship a year later.
When accessing the results, and speaking to new partners of the participants, researchers found that those who were helpers were seen as ‘putting others’ needs before your own’ which led them to believe they were more compatible. Some even listed the trait as an important factor in searching for a good parenting partner.
So if you’re looking for love this Valentine’s Day, it might be worth dropping the Tinder and taking up some saintly behaviour.
