Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow wind warning for across Ireland today as high winds continue in the wake of Storm Abigail which hit the country on Thursday night.

The weather warning has been in place since 4am this morning (Friday), continuing on from weather warnings that were issued to various parts of the country yesterday.

The warning is in effect until 9pm this evening.

“Southwest winds veering westerly on Friday morning, with mean speeds of 40 to 55kmh, will gust 75 to 100kmh,” a statement under the weather warning on Met Éireann’s site reads.

“Friday will be a cold and very blustery day,” the forecast reads. “Whilst there will be sunny intervals, showers occurring too, with the risk of thunder to begin.

“Some of the showers will be heavy and of hail. Later in the evening, showers will become confined to western and northern counties.

“Overnight, the winds will ease, backing southwesterly, but rain will begin to push up across the country from the southwest later. Rather cold, with lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees Celsius.”
