For one family, a trip to Cork City to visit relatives ended in disaster when their pet dog Buddy jumped out of the car and ran away.
According to the Irish Examiner Michael Collins, who lives in Dublin, and his family were visiting his parents on the Western outskirts of Cork city last Thursday.
But when they stopped for petrol on the way home, their 18-month-old beagle Buddy jumped out of the car and ran away after being struck by two vehicles.
Despite three hours of searching Buddy was nowhere to be seen so Michael, his wife Siobhan and son Darragh went home heartbroken. When they got there, they set up a Facebook page hoping that it would help them find their missing dog.
And help them it certainly did. Soon Buddy’s story was all over Facebook and Twitter. In Cork, posters were also put up to spread the word.
On Friday a dog matching Buddy’s description was spotted. On receiving the update Michael jumped into his car and headed for Cork city while Siobhan stayed online.
Unbeknownst to them Nanci Creedon, who runs Creedon’s Doggie Daycare in Cork, was keeping an eye on the story all along. She and a friend managed to find Buddy in a field but weren’t able to coerce him over.
Nanci ended up calling the number on the posters which put her through to Siobhan. She was then able to entice the pooch over by calling for him via speakerphone. It wasn’t long before Michael arrived for an emotional reunion with his pup.
Speaking about the search, Michael told the newspaper: “We were absolutely stunned and amazed that so many people took the time, and put in the effort to find Buddy.
“Words cannot express how grateful we are for the unbelievable support and assistance we received from the people of Cork.”
Don’t you just love a happy ending?
