RTÉ presenter Claire Byrne has left social networking site Twitter after being subjected to online trolling and abuse.

The Prime Time presenter said she had been thinking of shutting her account for some time, and the recent onset of abuse she received after news of her engagement became public made the final decision for her.

Claire was subjected to abuse on the social media network.

Claire was reportedly upset by the comments directed at her account, the Irish Independent reports.

“I have been on Twitter for years and enjoyed it, but I have been thinking about it [leaving] for a while now. It was just time to say goodbye.”
