Taking a look at the social media habits of 154 college students, researchers at the University of Michigan decided to inspect the feedback responses of respondents by texting them with questions six times a day.
When participants received the text – they were asked to rank their latest social interaction – who it was with, how supportive they were and their overall feeling from engaging with the social media network.
The results found that participants who were engaging in Snapchat interactions reported feeling more content, positive emotions, and felt less insecure about how they presented themselves online.
Students also described Snapchat as being “similar to sitting down face-to-face with a friend.”
This was compared to Facebook interactions – where students felt they were judged by their friends or followers, and were more self-concious by the responses to their posts and comments.
The research did point to the instant-feeling of Snapchat having negative connotations when it came to feelings of support – with the app falling behind the likes of Twitter, texting, email, phone calls, and face-to-face communication for creating meaningful engagement.
Really does bring a whole new meaning to staying snap happy.
