SKY Sports Announces Team for GAA Coverage

The line-up for SKY's GAA coverage has been unveiled.

SKY Sports has revealed the on-screen line-up for its GAA coverage beginning with Kilkenny v Offaly in the All Ireland Leinster Hurling Championship on 7th June. 

Between them, the team has amassed both Footballer and Hurler of the Year awards, 17 All Star awards and six All Ireland titles across the two sports.

Coverage will be fronted by Sky Sports presenters Rachel Wyse of Sky Sports News and Brian Carney, presenter on Sky Sports rugby league coverage.

Dave McIntyre and Mike Finnerty will commentate on both hurling and football.

Lead analyst for hurling coverage will be Jamesie O’Connor. He will be joined by co-commentator Nicky English, both former Hurlers of the Year and All Ireland Final winners.

Lead analyst for football coverage will be 1995 Footballer of the Year Peter Canavan, who will be joined by co-commentator and 1985 All Star Paul Earley.

From this year Sky Sports will show weekly live coverage from the All Ireland Gaelic Football and Hurling Championships. For the first time, GAA will be available across all Sky Sports platforms including TV, online and mobile with Sky Go, Sky Sports News and skysports.com. The schedule of 20 games a season includes the Semi-Finals and Finals.

Director of production at Sky Sports Steve Smith said: “This is the team that’s going to entertain, inform and bring to life Sky Sports’ GAA coverage. They’ve got the knowledge and expertise to help take viewers closer to GAA as part of our unrivalled summer schedule of sport.”

Over the years I’ve presented on a number of different shows on Sky Sports but I’m particularly excited to showcase the talent of GAA players both to those who know the game and to a new audience, with the technology Sky is renowned for.”

Jamesie O’ Connor, lead analyst on hurling said: “I see it as both a challenge and an opportunity to bring what Sky Sports does best in so many other sports, to the GAA. I’m delighted to be involved and am sure that everyone on the team is looking forward to rising to that challenge.”

Peter Canavan, lead analyst for football said: “I can’t wait for our coverage of this year’s Gaelic Football championship to get underway. The resources at our disposal to analyse the games are second to none and I’m really looking forward to working with the team and bringing GAA supporters such a high level of insight.”
