A six-year-old girl has made a list of the things she wants to see and do before she goes blind.
Jessica Smith from Merseyside has been diagnosed with Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis, a rare genetic condition which results in loss of vision.
Her mother Kinsay first noticed something was wrong when her daughter was three months old. She was originally told that it was Congenital Nystagmus, an uncontrollable movement of the eye.
But by the age of two, Jessica’s sight had rapidly deteriorated meaning that she struggled with everyday tasks. In 2012, her health took a turn for the worse with headaches and pains in her legs. After an MRI scan came back clear, the doctors did more tests.
Seven months later, she was diagnosed with Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis. Her mother writes: “Jessica is a truely amazing little girl and would astound you if you met her face to face [sic]”.
It is because of this condition, which will leave Jessica 100 per cent blind, that she made a bucket list of things to complete before she can no longer see. It is also why her parents set up a website asking for donations to make their daughter’s dreams come true.
Her list includes swimming with dolphins, visiting Legoland, taking part in a photo shoot and becoming a Disney princess for the day.
