Debate has raged in the past week over where blame might lie following the tragic death of nurse Jacintha Saldana, but one man isn’t afraid to point the finger in a shocking direction.
Ex-Smiths frontman Morrissey is no stranger to controversy, but his comments about the royal family to New Zealand television channel are drawing widespread criticism.
The singer blamed the royal family for Saldana’s death, and suggested that Kate should never have been in hospital in the first place.
“[She] was in the hospital, as far as I could see, for absolutely no reason,” he said. “She feels no shame about the death of this woman, she’s saying nothing about the death of this poor woman. The arrogance of the British royals is absolutely staggering.”
Despite Kate’s diagnosis of hyperemesis gravidarum, a serious complaint that causes many pregnant women to be hospitalized every year, Morrissey continued “Does she have a health condition? Is it anorexia or is it pregnancy? … I mean morning sickness already? So much hoo haw and then suddenly as bright as a button as soon as this poor woman dies she’s out of hospital? It doesn’t ring true.”
The nasty comments come as Australia’s media watchdog has launched an official investigation into the Summer Hot30’s royal radio prank.
