The bar has apologised for the offense caused.

A “Bloody Sunday” cocktail at a swanky London bar has caused controversy and has been branded “sick and offensive”.

The drink is served with a toy soldier perched on top of the cream topping. We don’t know whether they realise this or not but it has been named after one of the most horrific incidents of the Troubles, a day in 1972 when 14 innocent people were killed.

The drink is being sold at the Adventure Bar in trendy Covent Garden, the Belfast Telegraph reports.

“I really couldn’t believe it to be honest, when I first saw it on the menu. I didn’t think it was too bad until I saw the soldier perched on top,” Belfast man Adam McGibbon told the paper after he notived the drink on the bar’s menu. McGibbon works and lives in London.

“It was so offensive. If it had been another atrocity, one in England for example, they wouldn’t have done this,” he continued.

“I hope the bar did it out of ignorance, rather than not caring. They need to pull this crass and offensive product.

“I was told it was meant as a ‘tribute’ which is ridiculous.

“I really don’t think they would have put something like this on their menu if was to do with an English atrocity.”

In response to the outrage caused, a spokesman for Adventure Bar said: “Perception in London is very different, and to those people who are upset we are highly apologetic.”

“We are not in the business of trying to upset people.

“It was originally a reference to an Alan Partridge sketch but clearly this has been misconstrued, as we are understanding more as people make comments online.”
