Cue the dramatic music because Barbara Windsor, perhaps better known as her onscreen ego Peggy Mitchell, is returning to Albert Square.
The EastEnders favourite is reportedly making her comeback for a one-off special appearance later this year.
Barbara has played Peggy Mitchell for 16 years.
An insider told The Sun: “Peggy Mitchell is an EastEnders institution and a real fan favourite. Getting her back for an episode is guaranteed to pull in a huge number of viewers.
“Barbara still has a great relationship with everyone at the show, so when they approached her about coming back she was more than happy to oblige.”
The source added: “Since she left the Square Barbara has had a great time and kept herself busy, but she would not rule out making a long-term comeback at some point.”
Peggy apparently returns to help her son Phil (Steve McFadden).
Speaking about her comeback, Barbara said: “It is no secret how much I have always loved EastEnders and Peggy Mitchell.”
And while she is the biggest star to be returning to the Queen Vic, she’s not the only one. Samantha Womack (Ronnie Branning) and Michael French (David Wicks) are both rejoining the ‘Enders cast.
