Christmas is 52 days away which might not seem like a lot of time in the grand scheme of things but it is actually over seven weeks away.
Do you get excited about your birthday seven weeks before it? No. Why? Because you’re not crazy. However when it comes to the festive season, people just seem to get excited way too early.
Although, you can’t really blame them when these tell-tale signs are already all around us…
It’s colder
Sure it’s not the coldest it’s ever been and we’re not stepping out the front door with seven layers on yet but there has been a drop in temperatures. We no longer sit in front of the television in our short pyjamas with a cold glass of white wine. No, these days we’re all about the dressing gown and hot chocolate.

There are decorations everywhere
Sure the shops have to get ready before everyone else but everywhere we look there are tiny Santas, giant Christmas trees and bags of glitter. Is it really time to start thinking about the tree and polishing off the old festive ornaments? But Halloween is only just over.
Celebrities are turning on Christmas lights
Back home there’s no mention of Christmas lights yet, however Kylie Minogue was turning on the Oxford Street ones in London over the weekend. In other words, we are expected to go from our Halloween hangover to Christmas cheer in the space of 24 hours.

Selection boxes
They have been on the shelves for weeks and, as much as we love chocolate, it’s just too early… probably because we’re annoyed we can’t open them for another seven weeks. But mainly because it’s too early.
Snow rumours
The rumours swirl every year and every year (well, most years) we don’t get snow for December 25th. It doesn’t stop people predicting it though and, we know we say it every year, the speculation seems to come earlier each time.

We’re poor
Despite the fact that no presents have been bought and the food order is still sitting on our kitchen tables, our bank accounts are already feeling the pinch. We dread to think what it’s going to be like by the end of the month never mind beyond that!
The traffic
How can people be doing their shopping already? Sure there are plenty of deals on the go and there’s more happening in town at this time of year, but we can’t be dealing with it. Not finding a parking space always brings out the Grinch in us.

X Factor live shows have begun
For us, this is the clincher when it comes to the countdown to Christmas. When Simon Cowell and co appear on our screens from a live studio on a Saturday night, that means that there is only a small number of weekends left to go before we’re tucking into our turkey dinner and opening our presents.
Home Alone has already been on TV
We weren’t seeing things. It was definitely on and we (while hating ourselves for it) watched it.
