Take a trip to a part of the world that feels a million miles away from the hustle and bustle. Lose yourself in the Kerry countryside and breathe in the mountain air. For your next staycation, here are seven reasons to take a trip to Sheen Falls Lodge in the picturesque Kenmare.
It’s good to get away
As much as we love a city break, sometimes all you want is some peace and quiet in a perfect setting, and it doesn’t get much better than this. Set amidst an incredible 300 acres of woodlands and waterfalls, Sheen Falls Lodge is the perfect way to experience the joys of Kenmare and the surrounding Kerry countryside. It’s not called the Kingdom for nothing, you know.
Five star style
We’d all love to splash out on five star for every trip but the reality is that the budget doesn’t usually stretch so far. If you swap between a splurge and a steal when it comes to choosing a place to lay your head, you want to be 100 per cent sure that your splurge options are worth it. Fear not, this one is. Food, setting, service, rooms and amenities add up to a starry delight.
The warm welcome
Many guests at Sheen Falls Lodge are regulars who make a stay a veritable pilgrimage every year. The attractions are plentiful, but anyone who has ever experienced bad service will know that it’s only the stellar kind that keeps you coming back. Enter our host Ciaran Murphy and a crack team of food, wine and leisure experts who work calmly and coolly but greet every visitor with a céad míle failte.
Kenmare is a little bit of paradise on earth, and you’re perfectly positioned to see more from the doorstep. Tour the Ring of Kerry and take some stunning snaps, or opt for one of the many activities available mere minutes from your room. Whether you want to chance your arm at clay pigeon shooting, kayaking, horse-riding, falconry or fishing, you’ll be well catered to.
A spa that’s simply sublime
Toiletries in a hotel room can often be a dead giveaway of cut corners. In Sheen Falls Lodge, you’ll find VOYA products. Top class, Irish, and we imagine more-often-than-not nicked for guests personal bags. It’s VOYA facials and body treatments on offer in the sublime spa too. Of course you also have the option of other luxury treatments from Yon-Ka.
Food, glorious food
This is one of the big ones. La Cascade has well earned its place as one of Kerry’s finest restaurants. The panoramic views overlook the stunning Sheen waterfalls and the bay, so head before sunset to truly soak up the room’s magic. A Dingle Gin martini is the perfect aperitif while you choose what delights to opt for on Head Chef Philip Brazil’s menu. If you’re struggling to choose, the fabulous restaurant staff are more than happy to help, but a word to the wise would suggest you keep an eye out for fresh fish specials, Kerry lamb and local cheeses.
Rooms with a view
When all is said and done, you want a dream bedroom with a five-star stay. To admit we were gutted to leave one of the Signature Suites would be something of an understatement. Suffice to say we had the best night’s sleep of the year, despite not wanting to waste any time in there sleeping. We can’t wait to return.
