Seven Reasons You Should Stay At… Hotel Meyrick, Galway

Fancy a festive break away? You should check out this place!

Rebecca McKnight

Galway is one of those spots that everyone seems to fall in love with and it doesn’t take you long to find out why.

It’s a bustling, friendly city filled with plenty of places to eat and more shops than your credit card is probably comfortable with.

There’s no better place from which to explore this quaint but busy spot than the hotel that’s located right at the heart of the city, in Eyre Square, Hotel Meyrick.

Here’s why you should choose it…

Fantastic location

When we say that the hotel is a stone’s throw away from town, we mean it. Shop Street, which includes Brown Thomas and Tommy Hilfiger, is a five-minute walk away (if even). There’s also Eyre Square shopping centre where you could do all your Christmas shopping in one go. Being close to town means you have a variety of choice when it comes to restaurants and cafés as well (including Cupán Tae which is delightful).

On-site dining

If you don’t fancy stepping out those grand steps and into the picturesque square (we were there on a lovely sunny day), you don’t have to! You can find No 15 On the Square on the lower ground level of the premises. It offers a rich array of dishes for all tastes including fish (the cod is beautiful) and steaks. With the friendly atmosphere and excellent service, this is one restaurant you really shouldn’t miss.

Friendly staff

Good customer service makes all the difference when you go away for a few days but you don’t have to worry about that here. The staff are incredibly helpful and extremely welcoming. Whether you need to book your car in for valet parking (this is subject to availability) or are looking for a recommendation on where to eat in town (you will be spoilt for choice), they will cater to your every need.

Luxurious rooms

Hotel Meyrick is the perfect combination of sophistication and comfort. The rooms are beautifully furnished with all those amenities one can’t live without (including a kettle for a cuppa). Once you step into your room (they go from standard rooms to executive suites), you will feel relaxed. In fact, you might end up ordering breakfast up to your room for the rest of your stay!

Breakfast in Bed

Speaking of the first meal of the day, you can opt to have breakfast in bed. It comes at an extra charge but it is definitely worth it. From cereal to cooked sausages, you are guaranteed a perfect start to the day. For those who have a bit of a sweet tooth, there is a range of pastries on offer too, including pain aux chocolates and croissants.

The Square Spa & Health Club

As well as the treatments, including facials and hot stone massages (which we would highly recommend to get rid of any stress or tension you may have), there is an outdoor Canadian hot tub overlooking the city. The view is truly sublime and a must-see, but don’t forget you can also wind down in the jacuzzi or the relaxation room.

Local attractions

From the historical Druid Theatre to the Spanish Arch, there is a lot to see around Galway. Every Saturday, you can find fresh produce and locally-produced crafts at the market. From next week until December 22nd, you will be able to walk around and feast your eyes on the festive delights of the annual Galway Continental Christmas Market (located right at the front of the hotel).
