Grace’s Choice: Leaders of (Gentle)Men

Grace says: This week it is another easy choice for me, my favourite story has to be ‘The Irish Artist of the Week’. I caught up with 5 lovely lads from Dublin that go by the group name of ‘Leaders of Men’. Witty, charming and extremely talented, this band is one that I have no doubt you’ll be seeing and hearing a lot more of in 2014. Easily my favourite interview to date, have a read and you’ll understand why.

Cathy’s Choice: “Shopping Is My Cardio…”

Cathy says: Anyone who knows me will know I have a slight obsession with shopping. Namely clothes but then again my problem spreads further than that: beauty and interiors tend to feature on a regular basis too. You can imagine my joy then at writing an article on my favourite sport… if it’s good enough for Carrie Bradshaw!

Una’s Choice: Recipe for Success

Úna says: As part of my regular food feature highlighting some of Ireland’s famous faces talking about their favourite recipes, I spoke to chef and food writer Lilly Higgins! Author of Dream Deli and Make Bake Love and having graduated from Ballymaloe Cookery School she shared her recipe for Feta Stuffed Falafel Burgers.

Marie’s Choice: Gerry Collins’ parting wish

This isn’t a favourite story but more of an important one. Anti-smoking campaigner Gerry Collins tragically passed away from terminal lung cancer earlier this week and in the final ads of his HSE campaign, which aired on Wednesday to mark No Smoking Day, he lamented lost time with his family and made an impassioned plea to smokers to kick the habit that ended his life. Gerry’s brave effort to film these heartbreaking ads before his death means that he has left behind an invaluable legacy that will hopefully save many live. You can see his message here.

Rebecca’s Choice: #demandbetter

Rebecca says: This week Marie Claire Australia put together a video to highlight incidents of inequality and sexism. While it’s not the first of its kind, this video really struck a chord with me and just proves that the world and society still has quite a long way to go when it comes to the treatment of women.

Sue’s Choice: YOU GOTTA STOP MAKING MISTAKES, TOM. OH MY GOD!

John Travolta made one of the most epic mistakes he could possibly make while introducing Idina Menzel at the Oscars. The actor mistakenly introduced her as “Adele Dazim”. Since then, there have been videos, memes and all types of good fun really but the guest list to Travolta’s party is most definitely our favourite.

Michelle’s Choice: Emily’s Hair

Michelle was enjoying herself in New York this week, probably hitting the shops and enjoying a few cocktails but we reckon she would have shed a few tears over three-year-old Emily who decided to donate her hair so that it could be made into wigs for children with cancer. You know what, we can’t even talk about because it makes us well up.
