Hmm… we don’t know about you, but after reading this story we think we’ll be buying all our books from second hand shops from now on. A man in America has found €15,700 hidden in a pre-owned book. (And who ever said reading was boring?)
CBS Boston is reporting that the man, identified only as ‘Carlos,’ has revealed that he discovered the large sum of money in a book while he was browsing at a local second hand book exchange.
Carlos said that as soon as he saw the money he “closed the book real quick and ran” for his car. However, after having had some time to calm down, Carlos has said that he now wants the owner to come forward.
“The first thing I was thinking was, ‘Let me see if I can find a name in this book, then I can give back the money.’ But unfortunately, I looked and could not find anything,” said Carlos, speaking to reporters.
What would you do if you found €15,700 hidden in a book?
Carlos has asked the owner to come forward and email him. Before Carlos hands over the cash, the owner will have to tell him the title of the book, the approximate amount found and also what else was in the book.
Carlos said that he will wait a couple of months to see if the owner gets in touch, but if the owner has not come forward by then, he’ll keep a bit of the money for himself and donate the rest to charity.
What would you do if you found over €15,000 in a battered copy of Great Expectations?
